FAMER IS THE GOD.

The famer is the person who provides us with our staple food rice. To perform this onerous task,he lives for the field early in the morning. Elad in a loin cloth and carrying a mamotee on this shoulder.

In the field he does a lot of work. He ploughs the field with the aid of two baffaloes yoked together and prepairs  it for paddy cultivation. He repairs the ridges and dams of the field. In this way he works at a streach sweating in the hot sun. In the mean time, his wife brings him the “Embula” or the mid meal.

After having short short time of rest after the lunch. under the shade of a tree by the field,he restarts his work and goes on working till dusk.

There fore the farmers are completed to seek the blessing of the gods and deities too for a good harvest.

Hence the famers profession is one that’s intermingled with religious beliefs and practices.

In addition to paddy cultivation some famers engage in chena cultivation and garden cultivation too. These two kinds of cultivation provide them with their basic domestic requirements.

In the past the economy of our contry solely depended on paddy cultivation. There fore the famer was recognized  as a very important person in those days. That’s way the golden saying “FARMER IS THE GOG” has been formed in our folk-lore.
